Useful hair hacks

Protect your hair from the sun

It promises to be another hot and sunny summer. Nice of course, but it is important to take extra good care of your hair then. Always use a sun protection spray with UVA and UVB filters. This nourishes your hair, protects your scalp and prevents your hair colour from fading in bright sunlight.

If your scalp does burn, you can make your own remedy. Brew a cup of green tea and let it cool. Wash your hair -preferably not with too hot water- and then gently spray the cooled green tea over your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 5 minutes and then rinse it out. The antioxidants in green tea work well against inflammation and an itchy or burning scalp.

Don't wash your hair too often

With those high summer temperatures it is of course nice to shower more often, but washing too often is not good for your hair. Especially if you want to keep your long locks healthy, it is important not to wash your hair every day. So use a shower cap every now and then to keep your hair dry and treat it regularly with the right nourishing products, such as a leave-in conditioner or a hair mask.

Any more tips for healthy, long locks? Don't go to the hairdresser every six weeks! In fact, that is not necessarily necessary to keep your hair healthy. You can also take hair and nail tablets for extra vitamins and minerals. These not only promote hair growth, but also ensure strong and long nails.

Do you often wear your hair in a ponytail or bun? Then use a soft scrunchie or metal-free elastic to hold your hair in place. And then a final golden tip: sleep on a satin pillowcase. This has numerous benefits, such as less frizz and split ends, less prone to oily hair and better skin hydration.

 

Use papilots for a real beach look

Always wanted a full head of curls, preferably without a hot curling iron (especially in summer)? With papillae, this dream becomes a reality and in a few simple steps:

1.      Make your hair damp, but not too wet.

2.      Use a salt spray for more grip.

3.      Roll the papilla in a vertical line up to where you want the curl to be (does not have to go all the way to the scalp).

4.      Let it dry naturally (can also be done with the hairdryer, but don't set it too hot).

5.      Remove the papillae from your hair and gently comb it for a casual effect.

6.      Use some texturising spray on the roots for extra volume and grip.

Extra tip: roll the front two strands of hair back at an angle and secure them with a pretty clip for a playful 70s effect.
